Two-time cinch Championships title-holder and former world No.6, Matteo Berrettini will return to The Queen’s Club again this year in pursuit of a third consecutive trophy in London.
The Italian is only the eighth player in history to win back-to-back titles at the cinch Championships and only the second in the Open Era to do so in his first appearances at the tournament. "I can’t wait to return to the cinch Championships at the Queen's Club again, a place that holds so many special memories for me over the last couple of years and where the tournament team do such a great job of running one of the player’s favourite events on the Tour," said Berrettini.
Berrettini defeated Britain’s Cam Norrie in a three-set thriller in the 2021 final, before coming back a year later and continuing his unbeaten run with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Filip Krajinovic to lift his second trophy.
The 26-year-old will be joined by US Open champion and current world No.2 Carlos Alcaraz, and American Taylor Fritz, who entered the top five for the first time this week, as well as 2022 US Open semi-finalist Frances Tiafoe. Alcaraz commented, "It’s an honour to come to the LTA’s cinch Championships this year, to a venue with so much history, great champions and everyone knows the quality of the grass courts is among the best in the world.”
Tiafoe and Fritz have both enjoyed title-winning success on British grass courts, with Tiafoe winning the 2021 Nottingham Open while Fritz has twice lifted silverware at Eastbourne. Alcaraz reached the fourth round at Wimbledon last year before going on to win his first Grand Slam title at the US Open and become world No.1 at the age of 19.
The full entry list will be confirmed week commencing 22 May,with hope that other tennis stars will grace the courts at The Queen's Club this year.
