In 2021, at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, Aaron Phipps, MBE, and his Wheelchair Rugby teammates won the first ever GB Paralympic team sport Gold Medal. Aaron's inspirational story began a long time before this; he grew up enjoying rollerblading, BMX riding and basketball until in January 1999, aged just 15, he woke up with flu-like symptoms. He'd contracted Meningitis C which quickly worsened into Meningococcal Sepsis. After a two-week induced coma, Aaron was told that in order to save his life, he'd have to have both legs amputated from the knee down, along with most of his fingers. All in, he spent a year in hospital rehabilitating. His mindset and determination to achieve great things is awe inspiring; from a debut in London's 2012 Paralympics to climbing to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro (6,000m) on his hands and knees - a remarkable human achievement.
