Playing in his first UTS competition of the 2024 season, Shelton needed to perform extremely well to even stand a chance to qualify for the Grand Final in London. However, as a rising star in the sport, with a game that perfectly suits the UTS format, nothing is out of the question.
Heading into the event as one of the top contenders, Humbert’s aim in Frankfurt was to secure his qualification definitively and put on a strong showing that would give him confidence for the Grand Finals.
Fondly nicknamed ‘Kokki’, Kokkinakis desperately needed a victory in Frankfurt to secure a place at the Grand Finals after showing promise earlier in the year but without the required rewards.
UTS Frankfurt was particularly emotional for the ‘Dominator’, as it was one of Thiem’s final professional appearances before retirement.
Thiem could still qualify for the UTS Grand Final, which would prolong his retirement further, but if not this could be his final event.
‘Shapo’ needed a strong showing in Frankfurt after showing some promise this season, albeit only in short glimpses. His power game is perfectly suited to compete in the UTS, so Shapalov was well-placed to put in a good showing.
Playing on home soil, Struff’s goal was to utilise local support and earn the UTS points needed to try and qualify for London. However, to truly stand a chance, he needed to win and secure his spot.
